OUR STORY

A brand new online publication all about Black readers, writers, authors, and publishers. A new genre every month and bi-annual issues.

Founded in February 2021 by Jane Link, bigblackbooks is a brand new online publication all about Black readers, writers, authors, and publishers. We are always looking for new ways to support and build up our vibrant literary community across countries and continents. We are open to review copies, interview requests, shouting about your book on social media, and any type of collaborative work with similarly-minded partners.

We await your email at [email protected].

EVERY MONTH

We publish the Afroliterary content you deserve (think reviews, essays, interviews, reading lists, and more) on a new genre each month. From American satire and women’s self-help to young adult verse novels and British children’s, we love it all. This January is for Nigerian Women’s and Genderqueer Fiction.

bigblackbooks is conscious of how white genre categorisations pigeonhole writers and exclude our modes of storytelling. Our goal is to trouble how we think about genre and build a world where we tell the stories we want to tell, in the ways we want to tell them.

TWICE A YEAR

Our issues are dedicated to spotlighting emerging Black writers and putting them beside the big voices. Submissions for Issue 1 are open (out June 2022) and we’re looking for all types of writing including, but not exclusive to, personal essays, short stories, memoir, CNF, hybrid pieces, and any writing that dares. If you are an emerging Black fiction, non-fiction, or other writer with few to no publications or an established writer who would like to work with us, we would love to hear from you.

Due to a lack of funding, our issues will only be available online for the time being. We hoping to have print issues in the near future.
